Disaster Relief & Emergency Services

The American Red Cross Emergency Services

The Emergency Services provided to the public by the Local Chapter are divided into two groups. The Disaster Services branch offers services to those who require assistance during and following disasters. The Armed Forces Emergency Services branch provides services for those individuals whose lives have been altered by war or military deployment.

Disaster Services

EACH YEAR, RED CROSS PAID AND VOLUNTEER STAFF RESPOND TO MORE THAN 70,000 DISASTERS ranging from single-family house fires to major disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and tornadoes. Local volunteer instructors train hundreds of people in disaster preparedness and education so that our community will be ready to respond in times of disaster. The Red Cross provides assistance with food, clothing and shelter. Red Cross disaster relief is made possible by thousands of people who help their neighbors through donations of time and money.

Armed Forces Emergency Services

"TO ALLEVIATE HARDSHIP AND RESOLVE PROBLEMS CAUSED BY SEPARATION, DISLOCATION BY WAR, ILLNESS, DEATH AND NON-RECEIPT OF VARIOUS GOVERNMENT BENEFITS" is the mandated purpose of the Armed Forces Emergency Services program. During a military deployment, the Red Cross is often the only means of communication between members of the armed forces and their families. The Southern Oregon Chapter provides vital 24 hour communication for military families in Jackson, Josephine, Klamath and Lake counties at 1.888.737.4306.

There are times in the lives of most people when separation from a family member becomes a terrible hardship. When military service, war, conflict, or disaster separates families, families can count on their local Red Cross Chapter to play an important role in bringing them back in touch.
