Fulfilling Our Mission -
Translating Your Compassion into Community Action

This is the "new" basic class and will be a prerequisite for many other classes. Its purpose is to enable participants to translate their care and compassion into community action.
Prerequisites: None

Presents an overview of the activities performed by the Mass Care Group on a disaster operation such as sheltering, feeding, bulk distribution of items and information about the availability of these services.

Client Casework
A course designed to train new or less-experienced Red Cross volunteers how to conduct effective client interviews and provide appropriate assistance to help meet a client's immediate disaster caused needs.
Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission-Translating Your Compassion into Community Action
NOTE: Client Casework is a Prerequisite for taking Client Assistance Cards: Caseworkers.

Shelter Operations
Provides employees and volunteers of the Red Cross and other agencies skills to manage shelter operations effectively and sensitively as a team while meeting the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster. Designed to provide employees and volunteers of the Red Cross and other agencies the opportunity to practice the skills learned in Shelter Operations.

Disaster Assessment
This is a new "Blended Learning"* class. The purpose of the class is to introduce the critical role of Disaster Assessment, explore related preparedness tasks, learn how to collect and communicate disaster assessment information, and become familiar with how disaster assessment information supports management and service delivery decisions.
Prerequisites: (1)Complete the online component #DSIMS200C and (2) complete the "Challenge Me Exercise" from Module 4 of Part 1 and bring the assignment to class.

* Blended Learning: Some Disaster Services classes have been split into two parts: an online component and an instructor lead component. You must successfully complete both components to receive credit for the class. If you sign-up for a class with an online component you must complete both sections prior to receiving your certificate of completion. Remember to print your completion certificate when you finish the online section and bring it to class.
