Automated External Defibrillator or AED
Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death in the United States, claiming between 250,000 and 450,000 Americans each year. Up to 50,000 of these deaths could have been prevented if someone had initiated the Cardiac Chain of Survival, and an automated external defibrillator (AED) had been available for immediate use at the time of the emergency.
Rapid treatment with an AED provides an electrical shock that can 're-boot' the heart. These devices, which are often found in public places, can be used to save lives of people in cardiac arrest.
The Southern Oregon Chapter can assist you in acquiring an AED for your home, workplace or community center.
