Emergency Services

The Emergency Services provided to the public by the Local Chapter are divided into two groups. The Disaster Services branch offers services to those who require assistance during and following disasters. The Armed Forces Emergency Services branch provides services for those individuals whose lives have been altered by war or military deployment.

Each year, Red Cross paid and volunteer staff respond to more than 70,000 disasters ranging from single-family house fires to major disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and tornadoes.

Local volunteer instructors train hundreds of people in disaster preparedness and education so that our community will be ready to respond in times of disaster. The Red Cross provides assistance with food, clothing and shelter. Red Cross disaster relief is made possible by thousands of people who help their neighbors through donations of time and money.

Red Cross disaster services focus on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, health and mental health services to address basic human needs.

The Red Cross also feeds emergency workers, handles inquiries from concerned family members outside the disaster area, provides blood and blood products to disaster victims, and helps those affected by disaster to access other available resources to enable them to resume their normal daily activities as quickly as possible.
