News & Information BE RED CROSS READYIt is important that you be prepared for possible disasters and other emergencies. Natural or human-caused disasters can strike suddenly, at anytime and anywhere. There are three actions everyone can take that can help make a difference: Get a kit. Have at least three days of supplies in an easy-to-carry evacuation kit, with additional supplies on hand. Contact your local Southern Oregon Chapter office for information on Red Cross Emergency Kits for families or individuals or to get information on how to prepare a kit. Remember to check your kit and replace the stock every six months.
Make a plan.
Planning ahead will help you have the best possible response to disaster. Discuss with your family the disasters that can happen in this area. Choose two places to meet after a disaster. Learn how and when to turn off utilities.
Include a plan for caring for your pets if you must evacuate. Give blood - it is important to have an adequate blood supply available at all times.
Be Informed. Learn what disasters or emergencies may occur where you live, work and play. These events can vary from those affecting only your family
to those affecting your entire community. Identify how local authorities will notify you during a disaster and how you will get important information. Contact your local Southern Oregon Red Cross office to ask about
first aid, CPR and disaster training classes. Share what you have learned with your family and neighbors and encourage them to be informed too.
